Samba

In addition to providing an exciting, fun, and rewarding musical experience for school children, we are committed to helping improve the skills and confidence of teaching staff, particularly non-music-specialist teachers.
This is achieved by including the teacher in the workshop, and the provision of a comprehensive resource pack, which includes teacher worksheets, performance worksheets, information about samba instruments and a worksheet-related CD to aid future sessions.
With the resource material the teacher can adapt what the children have learnt and use school percussion instruments to recreate the RHYTHMICALLY SPEAKING visit.

We are able to offer a one-off taster session or to fully utilise all RHYTHMICALLY SPEAKING has to offer, we recommend that two workshops are run – the second a few weeks after the first - so that the class have a chance to properly learn and comprehend all that has been initially taught.
However should you wish samba to be the main activity in your selection we can offer a more developed program of up to 5 workshops which will result in a more in depth understanding of samba with a performance of more complexity and hopefully a highly polished finale.
Led by two professional musicians, the workshop provides each class with the opportunity to compose, rehearse, perform and record a piece of samba music using traditional instruments.

Whilst primarily designed to fulfil the requirements of the National Curriculum at Key Stage 1 and 2, each workshop can be easily adapted for any age group.

The project lets every child participate, and culminates in the whole class performing together. Using authentic instruments the rhythms vary in difficulty, and are played in small groups as part of the whole. This means it is possible for every child to have an enjoyable, fun and rewarding experience regardless of ability. Each rhythmic group is as vital to the whole as any other, irrespective of technical difficulty.

The final performance will be recorded for the school, but will also be available for each child to download from our website free of charge for a limited time.
